NIMYT – “Now It’s MY Time”
A piece of jewelry is precious “to us”; it’s a special object that somehow expresses who we are, or evokes an emotion we want to carry with us.
Ever since I was a young girl, I loved changing my earrings every day based on my mood or my outfit; on many special occasions, I found myself designing my own earrings and having them made. Why? Because I couldn’t always find gold earrings for everyday wear in jewelry stores… something a bit bubbly, youthful… and plenty of them!
For many years, my passion and creativity were directed toward other professional fields, until I decided that the path, traced within me since my origins, was pushing to become my own path.
My studies as an Architect taught me that designing was the way to bring aesthetics closer to functionality, because colors, free forms, balance, textures, overlaps, movement, and three-dimensionality must blend into something everyday and easy to wear, without losing personality.
My training in Participatory Design developed a habit of listening and analyzing needs that, I realize, flows primarily into the process of creating “Bespoke” jewelry.
My experience in Urban Sociology encouraged that “human research” which, much like jewelry, lived within me.
Courses in Design, Professional Goldsmithing, Wax Modeling, Jewelry History, Gemology, and 3D Design and Prototyping gave me the tools to design and create feasible jewelry using various techniques, because every idea needs its own specific technique.
Fine materials and multicolored gems, always natural: somewhat magical combinations that renew themselves in ever-changing aesthetic plays.
